Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (85/15 recommended)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Cooked rice for serving

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, and red pepper flakes until sugar dissolves. Set aside.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking into crumbles, until no longer pink (5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Add minced garlic and half the green onions to the beef. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant, stirring constantly.
  • Pour sauce over beef mixture and stir to combine. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until sauce slightly thickens and coats the beef.
  • Remove from heat and garnish with remaining green onions and sesame seeds if using.
  • Serve immediately over hot rice or your preferred base.
